Into the Desert

It was a hot, bright morning when I left Hikertown with Shyla, ready to head out for another overnight camping expedition on our own. Finding water in the desert is one of the difficult challenges, but after checking the PCT water report, I saw that the stream at Tylerhorse Canyon had reliable water, so that was where I planned to camp.

But first it was a long walk across the desert floor, often following the aqueduct, which is sort of ironic, knowing that all that water was there, just out of reach, in the midst of so much sand and heat. Shyla, however, was more concerned about the windmills, which sprout like giant weeds and dominate the landscape. The almost constant wind keeps them churning, and the sound of the blades whooshing through the air is almost surreal.
