Travel on the PCT in Southern California is generally fairly easy (compared to hacking my way through downed trees in Washington, or over snow in the Sierra), except of course for the lack of water. But the presence of cholla cactus is a definite problem, as these spines in Takoda's knee show. I always carry tweezers with me in this section of the trail for emergency removals; he was a patient boy, and getting him comfortable and cactus-free this time only took ten minutes this time.
