Yosemite

July 31, 2016

I know it is not politically correct to say so, but I really don't like Yosemite.  From my perspective, riding through on horseback, it is just an overglorified rock pile.  And "rock" is the defining word.  We are in the higher elevations of the backcountry, not down in the famous valley, and up here there is nothing but granite.  Which is torturous on the horses' feet and slippery and dangerous for them to walk on; both horses skidded and nearly fell at different times when we were crossing some of the solid sheets of granite that pass for a trail in this area.  I didn't even want to take photos of most of it, because it is just so repetitive--rock, rock and more rock.  We did find a nice camp this night in the Matterhorn Valley where we escaped for a little while from the monotony of granite, but the next day it continued, and I just wanted to get it behind us.
